Background

Sharon is an experienced teaching intensive lecturer who joined the School of Law in August 2018 from the University of Southampton where she taught Public Law and Legal Systems and Reasoning.

Sharon is the School Director of Teaching & Learning in the School with overall responsibility for the teaching across the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Sharon teaches students across the School, from foundation students, international transfer students up to final year undergraduates, across a range of subject areas from core undergraduate modules to supervising dissertations in medical and ethics law.  

Sharon has recently been awarded a prestigious University Teaching Fellowship for her work on Digital Poverty, Diversity and Inclusion and Assessment Feedback.  Sharon collaborated with student partners on many of her projects, and hopes that engaging with students, means they feel their voice is heard.  

Sharon is the module convenor of the key skills module "Legal Skills" which is designed to induct new students into the School of Law and give them the basic legal study skills to succeed as a Law student. Sharon revamped the Legal Skills module to include more diversity and inclusion themes and is currently researching and writing on the pedagogical and societal advantages to the students of diversifying the module.   Sharon was also part of a successful PLanT project that looked at Learning Disabilities in a Blended Learning Environment, the findings of which were successfully promulgated internally and externally. 

She holds an LLB and LLM from the University of Surrey. She previously taught at the University of Winchester as an associate lecturer in the Law School, teaching Human Rights, Medical Law, Mental Health Law and Legal Systems. She is also a qualified English Language instructor and previously taught English as a Foreign Language on seasonal programmes to a range of international students at the University of Winchester.

Primary areas of research interest include healthcare law, medical ethics and the use of Roman Catholic doctrines within healthcare, focussing on abortion and end of life matters. 

Sharon has written and published on pedagogy in higher education focusing on employability skills, reflective practice and digital literacy in legal education.

Prior to her LLB and LLM at Surrey, Sharon had a successful 25-year career in the IT industry, working for large corporates such as Hewlett-Packard, Unisys, BT Syntegra and the AA, as well as bespoke IT companies, where she had responsibility for many FTSE 100 companies.
