Our courses

Study law at Reading and develop your legal knowledge and skills in a highly practical way, with plenty of opportunities to build practical experience.

Our LLB courses are accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board and provides you with the first qualification for entry into the legal profession and as one of our LLB graduates, you will be exempt from the first stage of professional training.

The MLaw programme combines our LLB Law programme with the University of Law's professional SQE1 and SQE2 preparation provision, preparing you to sit the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE).

LLB Law

The first two years of the LLB, provide you with the foundations of legal knowledge through modules in core areas, including criminal law, contract law, and public law.

From your first year, you will choose from a range of specialist optional modules depending on your interests.

Through our programme of co-curricular activities, you will boost your employability by developing your skills and experience through a variety of pro bono projects, negotiation, mediation, and client interviewing competitions.

It is possible to extend this degree to a four-year programme and spend an additional year studying abroad, within or outside Europe.

LLB Law with International Foundation Year

If you want to study law at the University of Reading but do not have the correct qualifications, this course will prepare you for an undergraduate law degree.

Subject to the successful completion of the International Foundation Year (including the Law module), you'll be guaranteed a place on our three-year LLB Law course in September of the same year.

100% of our students said teaching staff were good or very good at explaining things (National Student Survey 2023, 100% of respondents studying LLB Law with International Foundation Year).

LLB Law with Criminology

Explore crime and criminal justice and engage with contemporary issues of social injustice with our qualifying law and criminology course. Develop a critical understanding of the English legal system and criminal justice system, and the relationship of these with government policy and law. You will be equipped with a strong grounding in the legal and policy framework, the criminal justice organisational issues, and the challenging context that shapes crime and criminal justice. This programme is designed for students interested in careers in: law, prisons, probation, social work, police, youth offending, youth work and other criminal justice related professions.

LLB Law with International Business

Our LLB Law and International Business enhances your knowledge of law and business in an international context and equips you with the skills and law qualifications for a career practicing commercial law or within the business sector. You will learn from world-leading experts within our Law School and the triple-accredited Henley Business School.

MLaw

Our MLaw programme combines globally recognised research and teaching with expertise in professional practice to prepare you for qualification as a solicitor.

This programme, delivered in partnership with the University of Law, combines the University of Reading’s LLB Law with the University of Law’s professional SQE1 and SQE2 preparation provision, preparing students to sit the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE).

Fees and funding

There is a variety of funding support available to our undergraduates. You may be eligible for government loans, grants or bursaries.

Students from the UK can receive government loans to help towards tuition fees and living costs. They may also be eligible for grants and bursaries depending on their circumstances.

Work experience bursary

Students who undertake work experience through the School of Law are eligible to apply for and receive, a work experience bursary. This bursary ensures all students, regardless of their financial situation, can benefit from work experience opportunities.

To date, over 120 bursaries have been awarded, and over 90 students have benefited from the generosity of our alumni donors, who sponsor the work experience bursary.
