Dr Karen Fairweather
Background
Karen was called to the Bar in 2007 as a Prince of Wales Scholar of Gray’s Inn. She has held academic positions at Durham University and, in Australia, the University of Queensland and the University of Adelaide. Until 2022 she was a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Over the course of her career, Karen has lectured in a wide range of private law subjects, including trusts and equity, advanced private law, remedies, contracts, and consumer law. Her main interests lie in contract and consumer law, areas in which she has published widely. Her publications include Contract Law: Principles and Context (Cambridge University Press, 1st edn, 2019) with A Stewart and W Swain; Private Law and Power(Hart Publishing, 2017), with K Barker, S Degeling, and R Grantham; Private Law in the Twenty-First Century (Hart Publishing, 2017) with K Barker and R Grantham; Credit, Consumers and the Law: After the Global Storm (Routledge, 2016) with P O’Shea and R Grantham. She was a co-editor of New Zealand Business Law Quarterly until 2022. Karen is now a dispute resolution consultant and accredited mediator, with particular expertise in contractual and consumer disputes.
