Background
I am a senior lecturer and was appointed in September 2021. I am the Director of international recruitment and admissions, Convenor of the LLM in Shipping Law on which I teach Admiralty Law and Practice and I also teach LLB Commercial and Contract Law.
Previously, I was a senior lecturer at City University, University of London for 15 years. I have also worked at Birmingham, Bristol, Durham and Reading Universities. At City, I was the Director of the Maritime Law Programmes in London and Greece and taught on the LLM in Maritime Law delivered in Dubai.
I am the Director of the Barcelona International Summer School in Maritime Law- an annual event, now in its nineteenth year.
I have spoken at International, conferences in London, Athens and at Posidonia in Greece, (the largest shipping Industry event in the world) and Econship, held in Chios, Greece. Also, at events in Tokyo and Antwerp. In 2019 I was honoured to present the keynote lecture to the Belgian Maritime Law Association. More recently, in the spring of 2023 I was a speaker at a webinar organised by the European Centre of Excellence for countering hybrid threats-
“Unmanned Vessels: opportunities and threats that arise in an hybrid context.”
Later in July 2023 I was a speaker at the 24th International Maritime Law Congress organised by the Instituto Iberioamericano de Derecho Maritima, (The South American Maritime Law Institute) and held at the UN’s IMO building in London, where my topic was higher education from a maritime law perspective; guests at the event included the Ambassadors to the UK of Guatemala and Colombia.
Prior to becoming an academic, I worked as an inhouse lawyer. I was involved in the provision of legal advice and support to a group of companies whose interests included bunker trading, shipowning, shipbroking and small ticket finance.
I am the author, together with Professor Jason Chuah, of Rogers, Chuah and Dockray; Cases and Materials on the Carriage of Goods by Sea, (Routledge)- now in its fifth edition.
