Associate Professor Jorge Guira’s core areas of expertise and current interest is law and finance. This includes sustainable and climate law and finance and reporting, the financial and environmental aspects of the energy transition, and the regulatory/litigation and dispute resolution/transactional nexus in these areas. He has been a practicing lawyer and advisory consultant and expert trainer on transaction structuring, regulatory compliance, and significant arbitration and litigation matters for over 30 years with over 200 blue chip clients including Tier One banks, and major energy firms, in over 70 countries. This involves core areas of oil and gas, renewable energy, mergers and acquisitions, financial regulation and reporting-especially as it pertains to climate and ESG. This engages the comparative and international dimensions between the US, the UK, and the EU, and developing countries. His professional background includes three key tracks. One, a focus on International financial and environmental matters, building on appellate/complex case advocacy and arbitration in securities fraud, mass environmental tort, trade finance and commodities fraud, sustainable finance, and renewables, project finance. Two, the structuring, drafting and deconstruction, of corporate and investment fund transactions and attending to disclosure and reporting obligations for arbitrage, alignment, or ambiguity purposes. Three, structuring derivative, and secured financial products. Director consultancy includes IMF-World Bank Global Bank Insolvency Project. Ongoing emphasis is sustainable and climate finance and reporting. The core questions are: Who will pay? And how effectively will it be reported and assessed, given evolving metrics.
