Background

Amanda spent 8 years practising at the Bar, specialising in Criminal law, Family law and Personal Injury work, from Chambers at 4 King's Bench Walk, London. During a career break she established the online training website LegalTraining, offering accredited Continuing Professional Development training to the legal profession from 2004 to 2019, in which she wrote and commissioned CPD training courses on a range of subjects appropriate to a professional audience. She was an accredited CPD provider for the Bar Standards Board and Solicitors Regulation Authority and other legal professional organisations. She recently edited a collection for Edward Elgar Publishing, "How to Include Employability In the Law School" (published in 2024).

Amanda was a consultant to the ESRC funded research project "Access to Justice for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders", advising the psychologists as to witness handling, criminal practice and procedure, particularly in relation to cross-examination. She also cross-examined a significant number of children (with and without ASDs) as part of the research project. Since 2024, she has been working in collaboration with psychologists (from the Universities of Bath & Birmingham) on another ESRC funded project about evidence and witness vulnerability in criminal trials.

Amanda joined the School of Law in 2015, and is particularly keen to support aspiring advocates, devising and running advocacy training and supporting mooters within the School of Law.
