We offer a wide range of language tuition at the University of Reading.

Our Institution-Wide Language Programme offers current students and staff at the University the opportunity to learn or advance their knowledge of a language in addition to their degree studies and work.

If you are looking to study a languages degree at Reading, please visit our undergraduatemaster's or PhD pages.

Top up your degree with language study

Learning a new language opens you up to new experiences and allows you to enhance skills such as critical thinking and observation. Being multilingual is also hugely valued by many employers.

As a student, you can take a language module either:

  • as one of your credit-bearing modules within your degree, if it is offered as an optional module for your course
  • as a non-credit module on top of your course for an additional fee of £340.

Modules start in the first semester and involve three contact hours each week (excluding Week 6 of the first semester and second semester), as well as study activities outside the classroom. These include revision classes during the second semester.
