Our research explores how language and literacy develop in first and additional languages. Key research areas include multilingual education, English Medium Instruction, literacy and vocabulary development, and eye movements during reading. Many of our researchers are members of the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (CeLM).

Progression in Primary Languages
To understand how children’s language knowledge develops, and the factors that affect their learning, we’re working on a four-year study with primary schools across England who teach French, German or Spanish.

Ready to Read
This community and research project aims to foster a love of reading in young families by bringing books and early literacy opportunities to children, parents and carers across Reading and beyond.
