Enhance your understanding of education and teaching with our PgCert top-up course.

Overview

Who is it for?

Suitable for both primary and secondary school teachers, our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Reflective Practice) course is designed for those who either hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) already, or who are working towards the qualification. This course will top you up to a PGCE.

How will I learn?

Enhance your understanding of education and teaching through master’s-level study. Explore how evidence based research can support and inform future practice. The course is a hybrid mix of live online group tutorials, individual tutorials and pre-recorded material.

At the Institute of Education, we deliver our teaching to suit your individual needs. The structure of our postgraduate courses gives you the opportunity to create your own tailor-made course, shaping our programme to suit your needs and your personal career aspirations.

Your tutors are internationally or nationally renowned experts, and their research regularly has a direct impact on school curricula and learning techniques both in the UK and abroad. As experts in their field, their research also directly informs the focus and content of your course.

Resources

Students on the course have online access to the University of Reading's resources, including online publications and books as well as academic support from our Student Support Services.

How will I be assessed?

You will complete two assignments. One address a whole-school issue with a focus on effective behaviour management for learning, the use of oracy in the classroom and creating an inclusive classroom environment. The other will involve an active research project designed to develop an aspect of your practice in the classroom.

The assignments incur Master’s credits which can later be used towards a Master’s in Education.
