Areas of interest

Both my undergraduate degree and my Ph.D were in the area of comparative literature (French, English) and I continue to have strong teaching interests in these areas, specifically in nineteenth- and twentieth-century prose fiction. I also have interests in translation, particularly French to English, both general and business translation, and in Business French.

Teaching

I contribute to or convene a variety of modules:

  • at Part 1, I convene FR1IFC, Introduction to French Culture, and contribute to ML1COMP, What is Comparative Literature, as well as to post A Level entry language teaching
  • at Part 2, I co-convene ML2STA/HS2STA, Society, Thought and Art, contribute to ML2GF, The Global Fantastic, and teach and co-ordinate the translation component of FR2L
  • at Part 3, I teach the translation (French →English) component of FR3L6, and have contributed to ML3IC, Identity and Conflict in Modern Europe

Academic qualifications

  • BA French and English Literature, University of Reading, 1985
  • PhD, University of Reading, 1989
  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, 2017
