Operational Calendar

About the Operational Calendar

The Teaching & Learning Operational Calendar brings together key operational milestones, deadlines and activities that support the delivery of the academic year for the University of Reading UK and most overseas partners. The calendar is intended to help colleagues plan ahead and understand how major University processes intersect across assessment, examinations, results processing, timetabling, programme administration and related student administration activities.

The calendar is maintained by a steering group led by the Director of Teaching & Learning Administration and Operations within Student Services, working in partnership with specialist teams including Examinations and Graduation, Programme Administration, Timetabling and Room Booking, and Support Centres. Updates are made annually to reflect approved process changes, changes to the academic year, regulatory requirements and operational improvements.

The calendar is normally published at the beginning of August and any dates yet to be confirmed will be stated as such in the calendar itself.

Key changes for 2026/27

A number of changes have been incorporated into the 2026/27 calendar to reflect changes to the academic year as well as strengthen results-processing activities and reduce operational risk during the assessment cycle. These include:

Finalist Results Processing Dates

  • Mark Entry Deadline – Monday 14th June 2027 at 9 am
  • Calculated classification released to schools – Thursday 17th June 2027 at 12 noon
  • PEM – Friday 18th June to Tuesday 22nd June 2027
  • Overall results deadline – Thursday 24th June 2027
  • Publication of provisional results – Monday 28th June 2027 by 3 pm
  • UAB – Monday 5th July and Tuesday 6th July 2027
  • Publication of confirmed results -Thursday 8th July 2027

Non Finalist Results Processing Dates

  • Mark Entry Deadline Part 2 & 3 cont. – Wednesday 23rd June 2027 at 9 am
  • Mark Entry Deadline Part 1 & 0 – Thursday 24th June 2027 at 9am
  • UPB – Tuesday 29th June to Thursday 1st July 2027
  • Publication of results – Part 2 & 3 cont. – Monday 12th July
  • Publication of results – Part 1 & 0 – Tuesday 13th July
  • Publication of PGT – Wednesday 14th July 2027

Changes for the 2026/7 calendar from the previous year have been minimal, with the most notable change being the time of day for the mark entry deadline. Note that exam preparation deadlines have also changed, to reflect the new academic year structure.

Interpreting dates shown in the calendar

The Operational Calendar contains milestones used by different teams across the University. Not every date shown will apply directly to all colleagues.

Mark Entry Deadlines

The Mark Entry Deadlines (MEDs) shown within the calendar are the deadlines used by operational teams to manage the institutional results-processing timetable and should primarily be regarded as key dates for Support Centres and central administration teams.

Schools will be provided with their own specific marks submission deadlines from their respective Support Centre, and the deadlines applicable to individual modules or programmes may differ from the headline dates shown in the Operational Calendar. Colleagues should therefore use School-level communications and assessment schedules when planning marking activity for specific modules.

Note that deadlines for marks submissions to Support Centres are different because of variables such as cohort size, timings of exam boards, the Part(s) that students are in and when exams were scheduled etc.

Meeting the mark entry deadline takes priority over the 15 day turn around policy, meaning that where an assessment submission deadline is such that 15 days would take the marking period beyond the MED, the MED is the deadline regardless of where the feedback (TAT) falls.

The published MEDs act as critical points within the wider results-processing cycle, enabling activities such as Programme Examiners' Meetings, University Programme Boards, cluster meetings, classification calculations, and the publication of results to take place to schedule. Timely marks submission to Support Centres by these deadlines is extremely important to ensure that students can progress to the next stage or to Graduate – late marks may result in students not receiving their results or progression decisions being made.
