Teaching methods

Our cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) training courses, run by the Charlie Waller Institute, are delivered via taught components, clinical skills masterclasses and supervision. You will join a lively community, where staff are actively researching evidence-based psychological treatments.

When you take individual course modules, you have the option to work towards a Postgraduate Professional Development Certificate/Diploma over up to four years, or a PGCert or a PGDip in Evidence-based Psychological Treatment over 12 months.

We strive to keep the content of our courses up to date and make modifications when new evidence becomes available.

Workshops

You'll attend 14 full-day workshops. Workshops are taught by national and international leaders specialising in research and dissemination of best practice.

Clinical skills sessions

PGDip students attend clinical skills sessions to put what you’ve learned in workshops into practice. Complete a clinical case report, two extended case reports and a presentation.

Supervision and support

Supervision is held in pairs or small groups, led by accredited therapists. Supervisors assist via case discussion, role-play, reflective practice and review of session recordings.

You can access further support through academic tutorials and study skills advice sessions.
