This intensive two-week CPD course is for university English teachers to update their knowledge, skills, and confidence in delivering effective English for Academic Purposes (EAP) instruction.

Participants will explore the core principles of EAP, gain insights into its essential skills, and adopt innovative and research-informed pedagogical approaches. Through interactive workshops, activities, and hands-on practice, participants will develop better approaches to addressing the linguistic and academic needs of students in higher education.

A standard two-week course consists of

  • EAP in higher education (Defining EAP, differentiating EGAP, ESAP and other approaches)
  • teaching academic reading and writing (Strategies for developing critical reading and synthesis skills; teaching research-based academic writing; common challenges in EAP writing)
  • developing academic speaking and listening skills(Presentation skills, academic listening comprehension, and critical discussion skills)
  • pedagogical approaches and materials development(Task-based, genre-based, and content-based approaches in EAP, TEL and AI tools to support EAP instruction)
  • assessment and feedback in EAP (Aligning assessments with learning objectives and academic standards)
  • intercultural awareness in EAP (Intercultural communication challenges in academic settings)
  • Reflective practice.
