The Pedagogy in Higher Education courses are tailored for academic staff from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. Taking an overall reflective approach, the course will review general approaches to Teaching and Learning in UK higher education, with a focus on classroom pedagogy.
The EMI CPD course is designed for subject lecturers from universities where English is not their first language. It focuses on enhancing participants’ confidence and language proficiency in EMI, effective EMI pedagogical strategies, and reflective microteaching.
A standard two-week course in Pedagogy in Higher Education consists of components in

- comparative study of pedagogy in the UK and other education systems
- current pedagogies in UK higher education: Active learning, independent learning, and effective questioning, TEL approaches, AI teaching tools, and assessment innovations
- reflective practice and action plans.
A standard two-week EMI course consists of components in
- English vocabulary and speaking skills for university teaching
- Effective communication with students (including Comprehensible Lectures, Pronunciation, Translanguaging, Intercultural Awareness)
- General higher education pedagogies: Interactive learning, Independent learning, Effective questioning, Cognitive learning
- Designing EMI-friendly lessons and successful delivery
- Reflective practice and action plans.
