We are a close-knit community here in History.
You will be welcomed and supported by friendly academics, peers and your academic tutor. We believe our personal approach offers you space to develop and grow as an individual, while ensuring your work and study benefits from support and structure.
We get to know students on a personal level and forge excellent student-staff relationships.
We are a small group and all members of staff teach our undergraduate students. We are on first-name terms with our students and each individual’s aspirations are important to us.
Our academics are very engaged with students and offer weekly office hours where you can approach them for guidance and support.
In your first and second year, you will receive individual supervision, helping you to build the skills and confidence to undertake the third-year dissertation.
In the Research Skills and Opportunities in History module, you are supported by a member of staff as you plan your final essay and in your final-year dissertation, you receive help and guidance from an expert supervisor.
You will receive one-to-one support from your academic tutor throughout your degree - meeting at least once a semester.
Your meetings will be informed by your goals and aspirations, with your tutor supporting you to lay the foundations for achieving these.

Brooke Harding attained University of Reading's Chancellor Award for achieving the highest average weighted mark for first year in History as a first generation student. Brooke's journey is a reminder that although there are still success barriers and fears of the unknown, one must take risks and break norms.
Our student-run History Society is approachable, friendly, and provides opportunities for you to get to know your fellow students and lecturers in a relaxed, informal setting.
They run a range of social events, including trips abroad, an end-of-year formal, day trips and movie nights.
Join the society to build great friendships and create memories that will last a lifetime.
As well as learning in seminar rooms and lecture halls, you'll have access to a number of excellent learning resources on campus including a dedicated student room for undergraduate students where they can exchange ideas and support one another.

Step off campus and you'll find yourself in a bustling town centre offering a variety of shops, restaurants and activities. We're also well-connected – you can reach London Paddington within half an hour by train.
